That’s Right: We Are Evolving

I’ve been saving this article for many months now, so some of you may have already read it, however, for those of you who have not had the pleasure of sifting through this enlightening perspective on evolution, I highly recommend that you read on.
I’ve scanned the article in its’ entirety for everyone to peruse, but what I loved most about “Are We Still Evolving?” is the fact that scientists can now prove (thanks to the mapping of the human genome) that we are evolving at an exponential rate, “over the past 10,000 years, human evolution has occurred a hundred times more quickly than in any other period in our species’ history.”
More importantly, though, is the fact that “the new genetic adaptations, some 2,000 in total, relate to the brain, the digestive system, life span, immunity to pathogens, sperm production and bones–in short, virtually every aspect of our functioning.”
Therefore, if our digestive systems are changing on a genetic level, this creates a very interesting set of questions for people who are diagnosed with Celiac Disease.
Is Celiac really an affliction as we are leading ourselves to believe or are our bodies the first movers in a genetic shift reflecting what our bodies are needing in order to survive in the future?
Or are our bodies evolving as a result of years of environmental confusion due to the industrialization of the very food that we eat?
As an optimist, I always like to believe that there is a reason for everything, and that Celiac disease is merely a wake up call to the masses that living gluten free very well may be the wave of the future.
