Banksy

I’ve had an ongoing love affair with the artist known as Banksy. He’s both myth and legend with a tremendous talent to back this cloak and dagger persona he has worked so hard to create and protect. He’s dualistic and sarcastic in the same breath. He’s daring and mocking -think sneaking his works of art into the Louvre and hanging them next to the masterpieces on the walls, forcing us to reconsider the status quo of art itself. This is where his genius rides, square on the shoulders of a bonafide artistic savant; he’s masterful and he knows it. Since hardly anyone has had the opportunity to connect the man to the art, I like to imagine that he would give me a big fat middle finger for complimenting him in the first place, which only endears me to his way in the world even more. He’s perfectly clever with his gifts. If you haven’t seen his documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop, you should, and if you haven’t had the pleasure to see his art, I’ve tagged a few here for your pleasure.
