9″ x 11″ reverse painting on glass

The first time I saw a painting on glass, I was in Italy in the summer of 2004 and it was this tiny little cameo of a noble woman that fit inside the pocket of her beloved. I was completely captivated because in order to paint on glass, the image is rendered in the reverse, which is to say that the final details are put on the glass first, not last. This completely blew my mind not only because it sounded immensely difficult, but because it was and is.

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw the work of Judy Jensen for the first time. Her images are so detailed and so rich, the viewer literally finds themselves with their mouths agape with wonder, not just trying to understand the process, but letting go and enjoying the enigmatic, surreal little journey that resides on the other side of the glass.
